Wow, I just got back to school from spring break. Isn’t that lovely? I’m already saddled with tons of homework and had to skip track practice. But on the bright side, I received the most excellent news today. I made it to State in Power of the Pen! (It’s a national writing competition) Me and Steven both made it. We are the only students from our school to ever make it past regionals. I am so excited to be going because only the top 15% of writers from regionals got to go onto the competition.

In other good news, I was invited to this female engineering and science career day at this local college. Apparently, I was recommended because of my involvement with the school robotics team. They only invite two or three girls from each school so I’m really excited.

It’s my last quarter ever at my current school until high school so I’ve got to make this one count.

5 interesting things to photograph March 26, 2008

If you’re at all like me, you take your camera everywhere. But sometimes when I want to start a new project, I have no ideas. Recently, I was addicted to snapping pictures of all my meals. Then for a while it was teapots, and now it seems to be self portraits. Any photographer will tell you that some days are better for picture taking than others. But unfortunatly, even the best photographer will have an off day when they can’t think of anything to snap. With this list you won’t have to worry about finding an interesting topic on even your worst photo days.

  1. Food Even the most artistic photographer has to eat sometimes. Alot of times you have to act quickly when photographing food because in a matter of minutes your beautiful fresh entree could start to look like a big mess. (Note: It really helps to turn on Macro mode for food pictures.)
  2. Fireworks During the summer months, you are sure to see some fireworks sooner or later. However, it can be difficult. Remember to bring a tripod, extra memory cards, and a good location. Even though the thought of photographing a subject that constantly moves and disappears in daunting, it can also be well worth it when you see your beautiful pictures.
  3. Children Little kids can be the perfect subjects. If you have children or younger siblings, take them out to the park on a sunny day. Let them run around there for a while. Trust me, children at their happiest is one of the best things to witness. And being able to captue that moment forever is priceless.
  4. Pets Think about your pets. Do you love them? Do you wish you could let others understand how you feel about them? Spend the day photographing them doing what animals do. Running in a forest, making a mess, or just being cute. Whatever they do, make sure you have your camera ready.
  5. Your Breakfast Believe it or not, your breakfast can say alot about you. There are flickr groups that are all about breakfast pictures. Plus, this one is really easy. All you have to do is snap a picture before you start to eat every morning. It’s pretty easy and will work for lunch or dinner also. (Go ahead, go wild and snap all your meals)

Basically, you can photograph anything you want. When you’re feeling low on creative power, just look around you. Almost anything you see will make for an intresting picture. Just remember to be creative, use good lighting, and always have your camera with you.

Something is wrong with me. I mean besides being a borderline solipsist, making lists for everything possible, and that I thought that Titanic was really, really creepy. For some reason whenever my blood sugar is low, I always check it when it happens to be 32. (Don’t ask, it’s been really low lately) And my address adds to the number 32. And my home room number equals 32 when you multipy it. Maybe, I’m just being paranoid. But, it’s probobly doesn’t help that I watched The Number 23 last weekend…wait…23 is 32 backwards…that’s scary. Maybe, I should just be forgetting this whole thing…

Cell Phones.

*Self Centered Rant*

I hate cell phones. Well, that’s not really true. I hate not having a cell phone. It’s not just not fair. I mean, I’m always helpful around the house, and babysit GA & DA all the time (for FREE, no less!) But as soon as I mention getting a cell phone, I instantly get a no. Maybe I’m being selfish. I know that they can be expensive and that texting can be expensive. But how am I supposed to stay in touch with my friends when I’m halfway across the country next semester? It’s not fun always being left out of things that happen at school because all the invitations for things go out via text message. It’s really not fun when someone asks for your cell number and you have to say that you don’t have one. It’s the pity that they get in their eyes that bother me.
