Amazing Things March 31, 2008

Wow, I just got back to school from spring break. Isn’t that lovely? I’m already saddled with tons of homework and had to skip track practice. But on the bright side, I received the most excellent news today. I made it to State in Power of the Pen! (It’s a national writing competition) Me and Steven both made it. We are the only students from our school to ever make it past regionals. I am so excited to be going because only the top 15% of writers from regionals got to go onto the competition.

In other good news, I was invited to this female engineering and science career day at this local college. Apparently, I was recommended because of my involvement with the school robotics team. They only invite two or three girls from each school so I’m really excited.

  It’s my last quarter ever at my current school until high school so I’ve got to make this one count.

St. Louis! February 29, 2008

First day in St. Louis!

Today I was a shadow. That’s when you follow a student arond during their school day to see what their school is like. First, I went to an Advanced English class which had a terrific discussion on The Picture of Dorian Gray. (I’ll have to read that book sometime in the near future.) Second, I went to a social studies class that was talking about different forms of censorship by the government in the media. Third, I went to another English class where the class was taking a test. I took it along with them but of course mine wasn’t graded. We also discussed the main characters of the story “Of Mice and Men” (I haven’t read that book yet either. =p) Finally, we had lunch…YAY! It was really yummy fettuccine with zuccini and salad. It was sooo good. I also had an interview to end the day.  I think It went really well. We’ll find out by the 15th of March if I made it.
